Our client, one of Ireland's leading players in the circular economy, waste management, and renewable energy sectors, is seeking a Feedstock and Finished Product Trader for their advanced processing facilities. The core purpose of this position is to manage the financial health and supply stability of their manufacturing operations from both ends of the production cycle. On the intake side, the trader is responsible for sourcing the raw waste materials and animal by-products needed to keep the refinery and rendering plants running at maximum capacity. On the output side, they are tasked with marketing and selling the high-value sustainable commodities, such as biodiesel and technical proteins, produced by those facilities.
The day-to-day work focuses on managing the margin spread between raw inputs and finished outputs. The trader actively negotiates procurement contracts for feedstocks like used cooking oil and various categories of animal tallows from both domestic and international suppliers. Simultaneously, they maintain relationships with European fuel blenders, oil majors, and industrial buyers to secure profitable off-take agreements for the finished biodiesel and agricultural products. This requires continuous monitoring of global energy and agricultural price benchmarks to time the market effectively. Additionally, the trader handles financial risk by utilizing hedging strategies to protect the plant's operating margins from market volatility, while working hand-in-hand with the logistics team to coordinate complex physical movements across road freight, ISO tanks, and ocean vessels.
A dominant factor in this role is navigating the complex European sustainability frameworks that govern the renewable energy sector. The trader must possess a deep understanding of the Renewable Energy Directive regulations and International Sustainability and Carbon Certification standards, as the financial value of these biofuels is directly tied to their greenhouse gas savings scores and traceability documentation. The position demands a candidate who can translate these strict regulatory requirements into commercial advantages during contract negotiations.
The role requires a professional with several years of direct experience in physical commodity trading, specifically within the biofuels, oil refining, or agricultural rendering sectors. The ideal candidate needs a sharp mathematical mindset to calculate complex processing and blending yields on the fly, paired with strong contract negotiation skills.
